new angel in the sky

i did something this past thursday that i thought i would have never had to do in my lifetime. and i hadn't mentioned this before in the posts. but to get a little off of my brain i need to let it out.

i buried my duaghter, Shelby Lee Taylor, last thursday and i don't know how i am supposed to react to any of this. i have been to more funerals than i am years old, but this one of course should have been different. other than the fact that the preist FORGOT about the funeral, it really wasn't all that different on the outside. but inside is what is troubling me. i had always said that i never wanted to lose my parents or bury my parents. a good friend we all call Doc asked me if i would want to put them through having to bury one of their sons. after very little thought about it i realized he was right. no parent should ever out live their child. they should be able to see them off to school, build some kind of castle out of legos, score in their favorite sport. but now that things have taken a sudden turn to STOP, my feelings and emotions have come to a hault also.

yes i miss her, even though i only held her for a few minutes. yes i love her no matter what, although i didn't "get to know her." and yes i will hold her in my heart, she was and still is my baby girl.

gap in the typing

this week has been one of the most hectic weeks i have ever had. worse than cramming for a gig that is only two days out. if you haven't heard about katrina (the hurricane) then you might want to come down from whatever you are on and flip the tv onto cnn or something with news.

Close to home (here in louisiana), one of our sister hospitals was rendered "dead in the water". since we are privately owned FEMA will not help us. so, we contracted helicopters, trucks and even had our own employees (including me) volunteer vehicles and time to get things rolling. I have made and surpassed my two week paycheck in one week. only had about 20 hours of sleep all week, and my body wants to shut down right now. the only problem with this is hospitals never close or stop working. so here i am at work trying to clear my head and get things going on this labor day holiday. i will get into more detail on this past week shortly, now i have to build a completely new db for our sister hospital so they can have something to go off of when they get back up and running.

nothing like a fresh bowl of panic

this huricane katrina had just about everybody in this southern folk town i live in going crazy (except the older generation, they just don't care anymore) looking for supplies and clothes. the best thing i heard was from guy at the gas station asking another... "Do you think we could get to wisconsin before the big damage?" Well, sure ya could but you will have to stop by a couple more gas stations and definately make sure you get to really high ground cuz the flooding in New Orleans could be comin your way too, there is no stopping it. of course when he is done talking to his buddy, he realizes he doesn't have the money for roadtrip beer... Good Luck Fellas

ode to another hurricane

i have never been through a hurricane. as a matter of fact, in the 8 years i was in vegas the worst thing that happened there was a couple floods and the snow in 03 or 04. the snow wasn't bad, it was the idiots on the road that have never seen the shit before. anyway

we have hurricane katrina on the way through here within two days, catigory 4, and supposed to smack right in the middle of Louisiana. basically where i am currently calling "home". i told my boss when i first started here that if a hurricane is gonna come trompin thru here i was going 18 hours west (give or take a hour or two). he said that would be no problem, but if i get paged to come in and fix or take care of something i need respond on-site within an hour. so no runnin back to the real home of desert and dry heat.

right now katrina is building up strength. great, just what i need is another girl waiting for everything to get built up inside to explode all over me. oh well i guess that would be life in any other situation for anybody out there, right?

well another saturday here at work trying to catch up with the list of things to do. it's a little better with music playin that i can actually hear with out the printer going off every two seconds and someone tellin me to turn it down they are trying to think sitting in the office four doors between mine and theirs. big business office policy i guess. i miss home, my real home where mom and dad are at. where i could go down the street and enjoy a bbq at marc's or pops' place. take a quick drive to Noreen's Lounge for a beer and some video poker. just family and friends mostly. maybe i wasn't meant to go out and imporvement my job experience outside of the city that never sleeps. i am thinkin about comeing back in a couple years. i think it just got dropped to just one year....

recognition unknown

A scaled down version of a caution cone sits above my monitor reading “Computer Geek at Work”

I don’t bitch too often about work or helping people out with anything, but when your job description is vague enough for every dept to use you, I guess I deserve this for not reading the contract close enough.

I have absolutely no problem doing my job and building things for other people to help out in dire needs of procrastination. That’s my thing here in the hospital, if they don’t know it they come to me. They find out their meeting has been bumped up to days earlier and need a database full of information queried, manipulated, reports built, and a pretty little graph of the chopped up material to put into a Power Point slide show.

Great, bring it on and let me know what info you need and how you want it to look…….
…… First Question: What info do you have already built?
First Answer: Nothing but I know how to get it fast.
…… Second Question: Do you have last years report to compare?
Second Answer: what report from last year?
…… Final Question: When do you need this by, yesterday?
Final Answer: As a matter of fact……

I should be accustomed to this since most everything I have planned to do in my life have been spontaneously crammed into a few hours of preparation….. My music “career” was a prime example of that. (I will get into some of that later) So after all is said and the PP slide show is put together (as hastily as the presentation by the fool), the feedback isn’t what the person wanted it to be. They come back to me and ask why the reaction wasn’t up to par….
…… First Question: Why wasn’t this (enter type of data here) in my report?
First Answer: You told me that everything you needed was in this “quick fix” database of yours and by the way, you know that was dated back in 2002. Thought this was a 2005 audit.”
…… Second Question: What was the extra info from 2002 doing in this graph?
Second Answer: I don’t know, you tell me.
…… Third Question: I am guessing that this won’t ever happen again with my reports and presentations?
Third Answer: What? You procrastinating, or giving me the wrong database? What’s for lunch in the cafeteria today anyway?

Little tid bit from my day working with not only the IS and Accounting Dept, but also Admin, HR, Quality Assurance, Risk Management, Marketing, and my favorite Nursing.

here workin saturday

Sitting around for six or seven hours today is gonna be great for the fact I get to think about absolutely nothing. I get the chance to really get some things done with no interuptions. My phone doesn't really ring off the hook here in the office but just the same, I start something and the phone rings for something else.

So anyway, for those of you out there that read these, let me introduce myself. I am Brandon. Nothing too spectacular, just another kid outta school workin to pay off the loans for school. I am originally from Las Vegas, but now reside in Louisiana for a bit. Long enough to be able to transfer to another hospital. Prefferably back home in Vegas.

I am a computer guru for the fine folks here at work. When they can't something to go right they call me, and I maintain the sanity level around here for the most part keeping people productive without the headache. Which reminds me, I need to check on my db.....
